The mission of the MaineHealth Accountable Care Organization is to engage and support providers, payers and community members in advancing integrated, value-based patient care. Though not all of the work that we do touches patients directly, at the end of the day we focus on increasing the quality of care they receive, curbing costs that they may have to absorb and enhancing their experience. In other words, we are in the business of demonstrating achievement of the Triple Aim to our payer partners and providing the information and resources to our provider partners to make that happen. After all, payers, providers and the ACO are all orbiting the patient. Working together, we can create a cohesive structure of support that is inspired by the elegance of our own solar system.

I hope that you enjoy reading about the work accomplished last year thanks to our dynamic staff team, board of directors and board committees. Though I write this as the current president of the ACO, I want to acknowledge the incredible leadership of Betsy Johnson, MD. Betsy led the organization from the end of 2013 through February of 2020. Her unwavering dedication to value-based work has truly advanced the work of the ACO. I dedicate this report to Betsy in thanks for her passion for this work.
